#WhatDoYouMeme Playing Card

Annoy your sister
Make her cry, Leave me alone
Challenge accepted

Happy Boxing Day! How many people have a pickle ornament on their tree? This year Santa left #WhatDoYouMeme as the pickle gift. And as we were playing the game Christmas morning, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tease the evil twin again. 😉 Then I picked up the perfect card – I did get to play it one round and won.

And then I was able to work both photos into haiku for the #haikuchallenge. Yesterday’s word was expect and today’s was challenge. On I go annoying my sister. #Fearthefork

No one answers door
rely on neighbor to send
bouquet across street

Since Rachael’s birthday is on a Sunday and she works at 4 paws, she wanted her birthday celebration yesterday. Well yesterday also happened to be graduation day for the high school and the delivery person came when the neighbors were at the ceremony. We got to hold onto the flowers. Of course I had to take a picture of Rachael’s birthday present by all the nice flowers. The flowers behind the present are my Mother’s Day roses and the bouquet in the forefront with the balloons is the neighbor’s. Rachael wanted to have sushi for her birthday, but we found out Friday night trying to make reservations that Blu Sushi is closed. The picture I shared yesterday of Rachael’s 19th birthday was the last time we ate at Blu Sushi without knowing it would be the last time. Rachael decided on Nakama Sushi restaurant. After dinner the gang came over to our house. Shawn was able to go across the street and deliver the bouquet; he came home with a piece of cake for his troubles. The rest of us played Cards Against Humanity. It was the first time we went through the entire deck. Rachael won with 24! cards. It was close though because Karolena got 23. I ended up with 16; Gretchen 15 and Emmett got 12. The poor guy was playing too nice of cards the game is titled against humanity for a reason.

I did win the haiku card 😉

The Big Bang
Some god damn peace and quiet
Geese

The #haikuchallenge word on twitter today is rely so of course I had to tout my victory.

Rely on nature
Cards Against Humanity
End haiku with geese

I found out this morning Shawn is having a solo show at Alwun House later in the summer – August 24-29. Since his brother’s birthday is the opening date, I thought he was doing it as a memorial for Scott; he said no. But now he may include a piece dedicated to his brother. This summer will be Shawn’s first trip back to Buffalo since Scott’s funeral. Maybe he’ll get a chance to photograph some places that remind him of Scott to put in the show. Okay and now that I’ve slipped down a sad road on Rachael’s birthday, I think I’m going to stop typing.

#NaPoWriMo 2018 Day Twenty-Seven

The Hermit

Loner
Seeks knowledge
Climbs great heights
Happy to be invisible
Introspection

NaPoWriMo Prompt – And now for today’s (optional) prompt. Following Lauren Hunter’s practice of relying on tarot cards to generate ideas for poems, we challenge you to pick a card (any card) from this online guide to the tarot, and then to write a poem inspired either by the card or by the images or ideas that are associated with it.

Good evening and welcome to day twenty-seven of #NaPoWriMo and I’m already starting to peter out. Gretchen was home again today and Rachael doesn’t have classes on Friday. Next week is finals and she only has to go in on Thursday! So my peace and quiet is quickly disappearing. I enjoy being a hermit during the school year. Since it is the weekend, I hope to catch up on the prompt I missed yesterday.

#NaPoWriMo 2018 Day Sixteen

Guess My Occupation

Bartender
Horse Listener
Software Engineer
Tarot Card Reader
Firefighter
Pastor
Porn Producer
ER Nurse
Bounty Hunter

Early Monday morning I spy this list sitting on my kitchen table. I did not even have any coffee in me. I read the list out loud and ask, thinking of some unusual occupations? Rachael laughs, It isn’t even my handwriting. Porn Producer?! Yeah it sounds boring. What? Gretchen and I watched a video where you had to guess what each person did. They told the pastor to cover his ears when they talked to the porn producer. Here I was thinking Gretchen was stretching her possibilities after taking the ACT this weekend, but no they were playing a silly game.

Occupation list
made mom flinch when she read it
children play strange game

NaPoWriMo Prompt – In this vein, our (optional, as always) prompt for the day asks you to write a poem that prominently features the idea of play. It could be a poem about a sport or game, a poem about people who play (or are playing a game), or even a poem in the form of the rules for a sport or game that you’ve just made up (sort of like Calvinball).

Good Morning! And Welcome to day sixteen of #NaPoWriMo. Ugh! It’s Monday and already I’ve gotten a text from Gretchen complaining The Great Gatsby was not in her book bag. And now I get one from Rachael who wants me to email a document off her computer! Mom still doesn’t have enough coffee to function properly; not to mention seeing such an eclectic list of jobs before coffee really threw me off. But at least it made good poetry fodder. Well I need to get things done before I log into work. My top priority being coffee. I need to shower sometime this morning, too, since Gretchen and I are off to the orthodontist after my work. Ugh! Monday! On a positive note Gretchen was happy with the ACT over the weekend. She was glad she got English for her extra portion instead of math. It will be nice if she’s happy with her score and won’t have to take it again. (Happy is a score high enough to earn the top academic scholarship at ASU). The girl doesn’t want to leave home. I really have to get better at telling them to stay out when they leave every morning. 😉

No Crying in Baseball

Biding
Chiding
Gliding
Sliding
Coach always a biding, chiding storm
Players begin gliding, sliding home

NaPoWriMo Prompt Day 20 – Today, I challenge you to write a poem that incorporates the vocabulary and imagery of a specific sport or game. Your poem could invoke chess or baseball, hopscotch or canasta, Monopoly or jai alai. The choice is yours!

Welcome back to day 20 of NaPoWriMo – I decided to work on a Tyburn. Not exactly the easiest form, but let’s all remember, “There’s no crying in baseball.” A League of Their Own was made 25 years ago.

Happy 45

Happy 45! Shawn and me at PF Chang’s Goodyear AZ

Black and white photo
celebrates another year
keep on loving life

On Saturday Feb. 25th, we went out to PF Chang’s to celebrate Shawn’s 45th birthday. The restaurant was overflowing, so we decided to dine out in the front, bar patio. No crowd, a lot quieter, and the weather was perfect for outdoor dining. Rachael took this picture of Shawn and me after dinner. The first few shots, the lighting created some strange effects and everyone was laughing. One reason why I like this photo; it isn’t an exact smile but Shawn does look happy. He so rarely smiles in photos. Then photobucket had canvas prints on sale. I was able to get a 10×10 print for $20 (including shipping and handling). The print arrived today. It turned out really nice.

Then On Sunday Feb. 26th, Shawn and I went to the Sabres/Coyotes game with other Buffalo State alumni. We also invited a neighbor from my old street in Hamburg, NY. I was wearing my Hamburg, NY sweatshirt. And when someone walked past me, to get to his seat he said, 1 4 7, no 1 4 0 7 5. At first I was a little confused as to why he was giving me numbers. Then he said, Hamburg’s zip code, right? Lol! Yes, I am wearing a sweatshirt that read, Hamburg, NY the town that friendship built. I kinda forgot – When I was 5.

Speaking of time flying, I can’t believe two months of 2017 have gone by. Right now Rachael is on spring break and next week will be Gretchen’s turn. And before we know it napowrimo 2017 will be here. Hopefully I will be able to write a poem a day this year. I have signed up over at napowrimo.net again.

Pepper Panic Pantoum

Matching peppers, I begin to panic
Are there enough moves to complete my task
Moves start to dwindle making me manic
Am I wasting time in a dewar flask

Are there enough moves to complete my task
Words escape me, I start gasping for air
Am I wasting time in a dewar flask
Where I inhale helium unaware

Words escape me, I start gasping for air
How did I get caught in this stupid game
Where I inhale helium unaware
Holding my breath this poem isn’t lame

How did I get caught in this stupid game
Moves start to dwindle making me manic
Holding my breath this poem isn’t lame
Matching peppers, I begin to panic

Okay I play on too many Facebook games when I should be writing. I’ve advanced to level 410 on pepper panic saga. Stories of a neglectful housewife and desperate poet, right? Well today I thought my stupid game obsession should be put to some good use.
