NaPoWriMo Prompt – Our (optional, as always) prompt for the day is taken from one of the prompts that Kwoya Fagin Maples suggests in here interview: a poem that addresses the future, answering the questions “What does y(our) future provide? What is your future state of mind? If you are a citizen of the “union” that is your body, what is your future “state of the union” address?”

Good morning and welcome to day eleven of #NaPoWriMo and my future fortune. Okay, yesterday was somewhat aggravating poetry wise. At least I have a wonderful husband who went out to get me coffee bright and early in the morning. He didn’t get home yesterday until after 11pm. I was up late and hopped over to napowrimo.net to read today’s prompt. I went to sleep thinking it would be another difficult poem day. But when I woke up, I remembered the fortune I got over the weekend. We had P.F. Chang’s take out for Gretchen’s birthday Sunday night and I was told what my later years will bring.

Today all I had to do was put it in poetry form. Since it took me forever to write my poem yesterday, I did not write a haiku for the #haikuchallenge on Twitter. Today’s word is impact if you haven’t figured it out since I used it in both versions of my haiku. Then this morning, Shawn ate another fortune cookie and was excited; It says I’m going to be rich. Yep, I already knew that because I’m going to be a good person and give our wealth away. 😉 Shawn said it would have to wait til he’s gone. We’ll see…

NaPoWriMo 2016 Day 13

My Wei Rewards

Fortune cookies Pei
Deep breath, let tension give Wei
Enjoy free entree
Temptation cannot be fought
Honey seared chicken is sought

You will enjoy doing something different this coming weekend. The fortune cookie does not know me very well, do he? Pei Wei is an easy walk from my house and now that we are signed up for the My Wei Rewards program, I see lots of Chinese food in your future. 😉 For anyone who does not know, Pei Wei is pronounced pay way.

NaPoWriMo Prompt – The number 13 is often considered unlucky, so today I’d like to challenge you to beat the bad luck away with a poem inspired by fortune cookies. You could write a poem made up entirely of statements that predict the future (“You will meet a handsome stranger”), aphoristic statements (“The secret to getting ahead is getting started)” or just silly questions (“How much deeper would the ocean be without sponges?”) Or you could use a phrase you’ve actually received in a real fortune cookie as a title or first line. However you proceed, I hope you will feel fortunate in the results (do you get it? Do you get it? Rimshot, please). Happy writing!
