#NaPoWriMo Favorite Music

The Boss

Listen to Bruce Springsteen
When I was a teen
The poets down here don’t write nothing at all
Jungleland lyrics I often recall

NaPoWriMo Prompt  Our prompt for the day (optional, as always) takes its cue from Arkansas. Today, I’d like  to challenge you to write a poem inspired by your favorite kind of music. Try to recreate the sounds and timing of a pop ballad, a jazz improvisation, or a Bach fugue. That could mean incorporating refrains, neologisms and flights of whimsy, or repeating/inverting lines or ideas – whatever your chosen musical form would seem to require! Perhaps a good way to start is to listen to your favorite piece of music and “free-write” for the duration  of the piece, and then use what you’ve written as the building blocks for your poem.

Good morning readers and welcome to day fifteen of napowrimo; we made it to the halfway point. So no, I didn’t follow the prompt exactly but I did write a poem highlighting one of my favorite musicians. When I saw today’s featured participant wrote clerihews for yesterday’s prompt, I thought it would be fun to try one today. And as you can see, I do like Jungleland; I think it’s my favorite Springsteen song. Don’t read the pantoum too closely, if I recall I messed up on the rhyme scheme. It does allude to the story of my youth. I still blame Shawn for making me grow old.

Congrats! to everyone who has made it to the halfway point. Keep up the great (or not so great) work. Just keep writing.

NaPoWriMo Prompt Day 14 –Because it’s Friday, let’s keep it light and silly today, with a clerihew. This is a four line poem biographical poem that satirizes a famous person.

Kevin Bacon
started campaign to free the bacon
many actors hem and haw
but he stood up to awe

Welcome back to day 14 of NaPoWriMo and no your eyes are not deceiving you, I am missing a ghazal for day 13. Since today’s prompt was light and silly, I may get back to the missing prompt after work. Okay a little explanation about my Clerihew. Sebastian Stan is an actor and Gretchen is a fan especially of Bucky from Captain America. But her mother has a hard time remembering both his name and the character’s name. One day I asked her about Sebastian Shaw, and she gave me a funny look. Okay I know I probably got the name wrong, AGAIN. But the guy you like from Captain America.

Stan, Mom. Sebastian Shaw is the bad guy in X-Men played by Kevin Bacon. Yeah well whenever anyone mentions Kevin Bacon I can’t help thinking about #freethebacon 😉

NaPoWriMo Prompt – And now for our prompt (optional, as always)! It’s the weekend, so I’d thought we might go with something short and just a bit (or a lot) silly – the Clerihew. These are rhymed, humorous quatrains involving a specific person’s name. You can write about celebrities, famous people from history, even your mom (hopefully she’s got a good name for rhyming with).

I thought since one of the reasons I did not write a poem on Thursday was because I attended the NHS induction ceremony, I should get a poem out of it. My daughter is joining other infamous people like her own mother. Yes, this criminal behavior runs in the family. 😉
