August Almost Over

Last day of August
Prime time to get off my butt
Not feeling well sucks

Long time and nothing new from me. Sorry to all my followers, but I’ve been under the weather most of this month and everyone else in the family has been busy with school and work. And as it was the start of the school year, it also meant Mom got homework, too. Gretchen’s final walk through registration went well. Then we had all the start of the school year syllabuses to sign and there was the online health class to register for and it got off to a good start this past Monday.

Earlier this month, I had a few poems published in Unstrung Magazine.

Today’s #haikuchallenge word is prime. The one above was written a couple weeks ago for the #haikuchallenge on twitter and to share the link to the magazine. I haven’t even been keeping up with the daily words. Hopefully now that I’m on the mend and with the start of a new month tomorrow, I can start daily poetry writing again.

Treetop tips over

I posted how the haboob Monday night took the top off our tree in the front. Because the bottom branches are thick, the tree caught itself. Probably a good thing, as it tipped towards the driveway and may have landed on top of Rachael’s car if the bottom branches weren’t there. Well Tuesday Rachael was off from work, so we went out to do back to school shopping; and wow there was a lot of storm damage to clean up. I called a tree company on Wednesday; they could not picture how the tree could catch itself. I told them there is no rush. The tree isn’t blocking the road and there is no other damage. Thursday morning they came out to look at it. Unfortunately they are very busy and can’t get to it for awhile plus Shawn did not like the price. So the top of the tree is still dangling from the top.

Then last night the West Valley was hit with another intense monsoon storm. An entire house out near Buckeye was destroyed. When I noticed the wind picking up, I told Rachael to move the car out of the driveway. The above picture was taken today, so the storm last night did not create any more damage to the tree. Hopefully Shawn can get it trimmed up tomorrow. The #haikuchallenge word today is tip. I knew this would be a perfect photo to go with my haiku. Monsoon season really likes to show off in August. This was the same palo verde tree last year (the photo on right; wall was in neighborhood but not our property).

Colleen’s #Poetry Challenge 95

Summer break ends soon
Mom glad to have empty house
But children grow glum

Good Evening! It’s the last day of July and officially one week until school is back in session. Since Rachael was off today, we did our back to school shopping and then headed over to P.F.Chang’s for take out – Mom had a coupon.

Here is the link to Colleen’s #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge the two words, synonyms only – Happy & Morose. Slowly but surely I’m getting back to writing poetry again. Summer break has been a killer; haven’t kept up well with the poet blog revival in June or July. I love school because my house is quiet all day.

Back in May, I posted Shawn was having a solo show at Alwun House at the end of August. Well last night, Phoenix was hit with a big monsoon storm; we’re going to need to get a tree trimmer over to take care of one of our trees. Alwun House also suffered quite a bit of damage, so the show had to be canceled. 😦 I’ll keep my readers posted when it gets rescheduled.
