#ThrowBackThursday Haiku Fun

Disneyland July 2015

Pooh Bear sits between
friends vying to be in charge
before Civil War

The above photo from our trip to Disneyland celebrating Gretchen’s 8th grade graduation popped up in my Facebook memories this morning; I posted it. Then I realized Gretchen was wearing a Captain America t-shirt and I was wearing an Ironman t-shirt. When I logged onto Twitter and saw the #haikuchallenge word is charge, I knew I could have some fun with a throwback haiku. I even made sure to check the photo was taken before the Civil War movie.

Gretchen and I were up bright and early yesterday for her final high school registration. She is all set to begin her senior year. Between her class fees and purchasing her senior yearbook, senior year is already costing Mom and Dad a pretty penny. It’s hard to believe we’ll be looking to celebrate her high school graduation in less than a year.

Poetry – It’s What’s for Dinner

So the girls and I sat down for dinner and I began playing the Haiku Chronicle Podcast. The girls questioned my listening preference and I told them it’s poetry. Then Patricia said; Hello, Veronica as if we were sitting in the same room having a conversation. After that both my children were more interested in actually listening to the podcast. Of course neither one of them understood my Sylvia Plath inspired senryu. Rachael didn’t even realize I pulled the quote for her birthday back in May.

“I’m dead?”

You were the one telling me you felt twenty was old so when I came across the quote by Plath, I had to share it with you. I did post the full quote on her FaceBook page, but who reads their own wall. 😉 Then we had to watch the KFC/Game of Thrones commercial my cousin Russell posted on my wall as a comment. Why? Because I posted, When your child comes home reeking of chicken, I told her she had a weird job. No, we did not have chicken for dinner. Didn’t think it would be right to feed her chicken after she euthanized them for necropsy at work today.

This was our Tuesday. How did your day unfold?

Last High School Registration Walk Through

It’s finally here, the last time we will have to go to Gretchen’s school for walk through registration is tomorrow. So this morning I filled out all the paperwork in an attempt to get through the process more quickly. Rachael has been officially added as a pick up person; mom no longer has to go with her if she needs to pick Gretchen up during school hours. 😀 She could have been added last year, but I was in Germany during walk through and apparently Dad was a deer in the headlights. Gretchen is happy Mom is available to go this year.  Mom isn’t these things are a mad house.

Survived Walk Through Registration

Fill out paperwork
Go over everything
Last year of high school

And speaking of madness, I’m currently filling out high school paperwork times two. Because Gretchen needs her health requirement to graduate and it’s incorporated into Agua Fria’s PE class Gretchen cannot take; she needs to take the health portion online. I thought this meant through her school, but no she has to registration as a concurrent student with an online high school for one half credit course! Hopefully once the school year starts, Mom will get some peace again. I have fallen off of weekly updates for the poet blog revival. While we’re on the subject of poetry – Fellowship applications for writers to teach at the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference at the Virginia G. Piper Center at ASU are due Monday July 30th. I know the poetry community in Phoenix would love to see some poetry workshops at the conference. Sorry for the short notice, but I have a link to the website.

Doctor appointment
Resist laughing my ass off
at husband’s faux pas

Confuse appointments
Ends up at dentist’s office
Give husband away

Appointment mixup
Cannot give husband away
Too entertaining

Yesterday Shawn was suppose to go to the doctor’s for a followup on his high blood pressure. I figured I’d make Gretchen’s well check for the same day, but they didn’t have appointment times back to back so I had to schedule Gretchen for the afternoon when Rachael would be available to drive. Monday night I tell Shawn he has a doctor’s appointment. Tuesday I get up and sit with him on the couch; we’re talking as Rachael heads off to work. I ask him about his BP and remind him of his appointment time. He leaves for the appointment right at the time of the appointment! A few minutes later I get a text, Did they call yesterday? Yes, 8:20 appointment time. Ten minutes later he’s back home and aggravated. The appointment is August 7th. Yes, your dental is August 7th; you had a doctor’s appointment today. He argued a dentist is a doctor too. True but how often do you tell someone they have a doctor’s appointment for a dentist visit? He went back out in a huff and no, I could not resist laughing. Yesterday’s #haikuchallenge word was resist so I had to find a way to write about my entertaining morning.

Needless to say by the time he got to the doctor’s office, it was well past his appointment time and he had to reschedule. Ugh! Rachael did get home from work and we managed to get Gretchen to her doctor appointment without issues. The #haikuchallenge word today is away and I would give Shawn away but then I would miss all the fun. Gretchen asked if Dad would have missed his appointment if he and she had back to back times. Yeah, no because then I would be going too and I would have made sure we left earlier and which doctor’s office to go to.

Back from Buffalo

Vacation over
Housework keeps husband busy
while I supervise

Okay I did steam mop the bathroom floor and cleaned the shower before doing the hard work of supervising. It’s amazing how dirty floors get leaving three cats alone in a house for a week. I cleaned out the litter box yesterday before watching TV; then went down the hall to scoop out the one in the girls’ bathroom and found Rachael beat me to it. And somehow this morning Gretchen went off to 4 Paws with Rachael to clean more litter boxes. 😉 Actually Rachael says Gretchen plays with kittens more than cleaning.

Meanwhile we are still minus one dog. Nonnie worked yesterday not sure about today, trying to find out as 4 Paws is close to her house and the girls can pick her up on the way home, but haven’t heard anything from Nonnie. It’s strange not having a dog underfoot, but it has made it easier to sweep, mop and vacuum all the hair accumulated in the house by three cats.

In other news before we left on vacation, Rachael started working at the ASU research veterinary clinic and Gretchen finished her summer classes at EMCC. She got a B in Public Speaking and an A in Sociology. Well I should get back to cleaning while I’m still minus a couple children and a dog.
